Prayer for Repentance/Молитва покаянная.

This AV piece is prompted by personal experience of migration. It is a direct expression of feeling a new marginal state of self, where crossing physical borders between countries prompted crossing borders between material and virtual reality.

You find yourself living between 'real' life and virtual domains where your family exists only in a group chat; your colleagues are always on Zoom; and your friends live in videos and audio memos that you exchange with each other.

This work is part of a series of AV prayers, dedicated to finding new spirituality in these challenging times through audio-visual instruments.

Prayer for Repentance — image 1

Materially, you are tied to your computer, but you are in so many places at the same time. At some point, you begin perceiving yourself as though being outside of yourself - existing between these videos, chats and calls - beyond the borders of your body and mind. A character living in a computer interface.

This marginal existence overstimulates your psyche to the extent that you are only calling for repentance in a prayer sent to this extra-border dimension.

This audio-reactive piece is composed of videos of TouchDesigner interface captured and layered on one another. Each layer is a little sketch I did back in 2023, and a reflection about geopolitical events and my personal life.

For example, in one of them, I use a 3D model of my bust captured with Luma 3D scenes. Another features the word "покаяние", the Russian word for "repentance".

In the backdrop, you can hear one of my unreleased tracks that develops from melodic ambient music to a rather more energetic and emotional breakcore part. Changes in music frequencies are programmed to control the switch between visual scenes.
